On November 20, the president of the Dominican Republic, Danilo Medina, led the official opening of the Boulevard Túristico del Este, an important road connecting Punta Cana International Airport and the Autovía del Corral highway with the hotel zone of Playa Bávaro, Macao and Uvero Alta.

In his speech, the Minister for Public Works, Gonzalo Castillo, highlighted that the Boulevard Túristico del Este is 30 kilometers long in total: from Punta Cana Airport, 26.4 kilometers with 4 lanes (two in each direction), and 3.6 kilometers with two lanes as far as Macao.

Also opened was the extension of the Boulevard Túristico del Este – Cap Cana (5 km) strip; a (7 km) stretch of the Uvero Alto – Miches road; 4 kilometers of the Uvero Alto road; and 17.2 kilometers of streets, curbs and sidewalks in Bávaro, Cabeza de Toro and Punta Cana – a total of 65.2 kilometers.

The event took place at the site known as the Cruce de Coco Loco in Bávaro and was also attended by the Minister for Tourism, Francisco Javier García, the President of the Dominican Republic Hotels and Tourism Association (Asnahores), Luis Emilio Rodríguez and the President of the Eastern Projects and Hotels Association, Ernesto Veloz, among others.

The San Pedro de Macorís – La Romana road (some 22 km) was also opened to vehicles this week. According to the minister for tourism, it will be officially opened on November 27.

These works saw the completion of the Corredor Vial del Este (Eastern Highway Corridor), a modern road network that will directly connect (with four lanes) Santo Domingo and the Bávaro hotel area (around two hours), passing through the tourist destinations of Punta Cana, Bayahibe, La Romana, Juan Dolio – San Pedro de Macorís and Bocha Chica.

Furthermore, the Corredor Vial del Este (Eastern Highway Corridor) holds substantial strategic importance as it connects three international airports – Punta Cana, La Romana and Las Américas (Santo Domingo) – which cumulatively receive 85% of all foreign tourists who come to the country; and it also connects the two main cruise ports – La Romana and Santo Domingo.

With this recently-opened road, Iberostate has moved even closer to those interested in investing in a vacation home, shortening the distances from the main airports as well as increasing the value of the investment.
