According to data from the Central Bank gathered by the Dominican Republic Hotels and Tourism Association, in September 2014 the number of non-resident foreign visitors arriving in the country by air has risen by 13.3% compared with the same month of the previous year, with a total of 239,518 arrivals at the country's airport terminals.

 

According to data from the Central Bank gathered by the Dominican Republic Hotels and Tourism Association, in September 2014 the number of non-resident foreign visitors arriving in the country by air has risen by 13.3% compared with the same month of the previous year, with a total of 239,518 arrivals at the country's airport terminals.

The total influx of foreign tourists to the Dominican Republic during the period from January to September this year has risen by 9.99%, with a total of 3,414,551 arrivals recorded. That equates to 310,176 more than during the same period of 2013.

Of the total number of arrivals by air, 2,236,548 were via Punta Cana International Airport (up 13.5% on 2013), confirming its status as the busiest airport in the country, receiving 65.5% of the total number of arrivals.

The main market for these nine months continues to be from the United States, which accounted for 1,408,879 visitors. This was a 12.43% rise with respect to 2013, equivalent to 155,717 additional tourists.

Europe, with 867,942 passengers, has grown by 5.91%, recording 48,415 additional tourists compared with 2013. It accounted for 25.42% of passengers arriving by air.
