The increase of 9.7% of the number of visitors to the country in the first 11 months of this year is greater than the increase that was expected by the World Tourism Organization.

The Minister of Tourism in the Dominican Republic, Francisco Javier Garcia, announced that the sector was doing better than ever with growth in November reaching 9.3% in comparison to the same month last year, with 33,292 additional visitors.
Last month, the Dominican Republic welcomed a total of 392,283 tourists, “which shows that the country is continuing to set record figures.”
He said that in the period January-November, 4,607,047 tourists came to the country, which represents an increase of 407,296 people or 7.7%.
“This growth tells us that we will have had an extraordinary year for the tourism sector, bringing millions of dollars to the economy”, confirmed Garcia Fernández when the official figures from the Central Bank were released.
He noted that the increase of 9.7% in the number of visitors to the Dominican Republic in the first 11 months of the year was greater than the growth announced by the World Tourism Organization for the Americas (7%) and for the Caribbean (5.9%).
It showed that the outbound destinations that performed best in November were the United States, with an increase of 11.4%, Venezuela (100.5%), Colombia (82.1%), England (35%), Canada (4.5%) and Spain (19.1%).
In the first 11 months, the cumulative ranking of visitors to the Dominican Republic was led by the United States, with 1,668,922 visitors, Canada (632,126) and, in third position, Germany (203,579). They were followed by France (195,643), Russia (161,251) and Spain (134,486).
Punta Cana airport continued to receive the largest number of visitors with 2,638,869 people or 65.4% of the total.
