According to airport figures, in 2013, the arrival of non-resident travelers to the country showed that Punta Cana airport has continued to maintain the greatest share. 

According to airport figures, in 2013, the arrival of non-resident travelers to the country showed that Punta Cana airport has continued to maintain the greatest share (63.6%) of the total arrival of foreign tourists, reaching the figure of 2,584,871 visitors, an increase of 7.4% compared with 2012.

According to the latest data of the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic, it is followed by the Las Américas and Puerto Plata airports, which account for 19.7% and 8.7% respectively, having received a combined total of 1,154,075 visitors, while the airports of La Romana, Cibao, La Isabela and El Catey de Samaná, reached a cumulative share of 8.0% of all tourists. 

It should be pointed out that during 2013, Punta Cana International Airport recorded the greatest growth in the arrival of additional tourists (178,162), with those from the United States (145,147), Germany (36,180), Russia (17,958), England (13,572) and Chile (11,742) standing out due to their magnitude, mainly as a result of the institutional agreements reached by the country with airlines in order to increase the number of flights; an increase in televised publicity; greater participation in international tourist exhibitions; and the opening of promotion offices in traditional and emerging source markets.

The profile of the non-resident foreigners who visited the country in 2013 shows that 93.2% traveled for recreational purposes, while 90.1% reported that they used hotels for accommodation during their stay. The average tourist who visited the Dominican Republic in the period under analysis is relatively young, as out of every 100 passengers, 64 were aged between 21 and 49. With respect to gender, 53% were female and 47% male.
