Located in the town of Imbert, Puerto Plata, the famous 27 Pools of Damajagua are a true natural wonder. Without any shadow of a doubt, Puerto Plata is one of the most complete tourist destinations in the Dominican Republic. The origin of the name of the river and its pools lies in the fact that Damajaguas are trees that grow along the river. The Damajaguas keep water in the river and have done so for a long time. You can find these trees in the pools, particularly from pool number twelve onwards. The river is the result of the confluence of various cascades and springs which develop on the mountain peaks of the towns of Altamira and Imbert in Puerto Plata.

A tour takes you across a pleasant hiking path along the banks of the Damajagua River and through its 27 “pools”, known as charcos, each with its own character. The charm of little birds, the melody of the streams and the beauty of the landscape will delight you while you climb from the first waterfall to the last. You will enjoy crystal and fresh waterscavesnatural “slides” and enormous rocks shaped to perfection by the slope of the waters falling from the top of the mountains.

Exploring the 27 pools of Damajagua is an invitation to forget about the world and to be yourself, alone with nature, with no problems or worries. These pools have wonderful spots which invite visitors to intertwine themselves with nature and forget the monotony and heat of the city.
