On July 27, Iberostate Praia do Forte held a very special event celebrating Bahia. In addition to Bahians beautifully dressed in the regional costume greeting guests, local dishes and canapés and cultural presentations gave a special touch to the event.

There were also displays of Capoeira and Maculelê, the martial arts that are part of the rich local history. Samba de roda e Puxada de rede provided the fun and energy of local dance. Guests were delighted with the presentations, which, in addition to enriching the event with music and fun, were genuine shows of admiration and appreciation for the cultural and historical wealth of Bahia and Brazil.

Cultural presentations were given by the Zambiacongo Capoeira group, with the support of the Floresta Sustentável Project, which develops many significant socio-environmental projects in several towns on the north coast of Bahia.  In addition to its support for martial arts and dance groups, the project, funded by Petrobras and the Federal Government, has established craft workshops which, as well as contributing to community sustainability, provide training and income to poor families.  It also carries out eco-tourism actions, both for local residents and for tourists and interested parties, stimulating economic development and socio-environmental awareness among participants.  The project also developed reforestation programs in degraded areas in the Atlantic rainforest and a collective agricultural and forest plant system for food production, which contributes to the recovery of plant coverage in what are known as Agro-forests.

The partnership with the Floresta Sustenável Project was an Iberostate Praia do Forte initiative and a way to become involved in the social and environmental issues of local communities, given that all the developments, as well as the entire Iberostar Praia do Forte, are located in an Environmental Preservation area that is extremely important for the local ecosystem. Sustainability and social responsibility are the main guidelines for our actions.
