In 2013, golf tourism generated nearly US$ 200 million in the Dominican Republic and it is hoped that this figure will increase to US$300 million by 2016. This data was provided by the country’s golf commissioner, Nicolás Vargas, and the executive director of Target Consultores de Mercadeo, Teddy De Lara.

In a meeting with the newspaper Hoy, the executives assured that an effort is being made to increase visits among tourists who follow the sport at a global level.

They explained that the country has 18 professional golf courses with export potential and more than 350 holes, 57 of them with sea views, something that no other destination for this sport can boast.

They highlighted the conditions with which the Dominican territory is equipped to fully develop the sport of golf, such as infrastructure, air and land connections, hotel facilities, golf courses and, above all, a good climate for holding events all year round.

They exclusively revealed that in 2013 they reached 103 thousand visitors who had come for golf and they estimate that this year will end with 125 thousand tourists attracted to the island by the sport.

Vargas said that the country’s golf courses are among the best in the world, as most of them were created by the best designers in the area, and he added that organizations of the sport are working on the creation of a Golf Academy in the Distrito Nacional region.
