Designed with passenger comfort in mind, the new terminal offers free Wi-Fi and plug sockets for recharging electronic equipment. The first level houses passenger arrivals, immigration, baggage reclaim areas, customs, a tour operator reception area, as well as taxi and vehicle rental services.
After its first year of operations, in November 2015, it is expected that the new terminal at Punta Cana International Airport alone will have served more than 2.6 million passengers. Once the airport is fully completed, it will be able to operate 23 airplanes simultaneously, something that has not been done before in the country.
Owing to the annual 10% increase in tourism over the last five years, this extension has been carried out in order to ensure the passage of tourists and flights. The architects Oscar and Antonio Segundo Imbert designed Punta Cana International Airport's new and modern facilities. The terminal's design is based on sustainable architecture, using LED lighting to save energy, and also offers easy access to passengers with Reduced Mobility.
